Pyongyang, November 1, 2013 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 60th anniversary of Pyongyang University of Dramatic and Cinematic Arts.

The university is a comprehensive center for training dramatic artistes and movie-persons.

In this regard, Han Yun Nam, vice-rector in charge of school affairs of the university, told KCNA:

The history of our university is associated with the loving care of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il.

It was founded as an art school attached to the National Theatre on November 1, Juche 42 (1953), on the initiative of the President, and later developed into Pyongyang Art School, National Dramatic School and then the present university.

The President showed deep care for the university, taking measures for the construction of a new building and the provision of educational equipment.

Leader Kim Jong Il gave meticulous guidance over the development of the university.

In the 1970s when the university was resorting to the outdated drama education, divorced from the actual situation, he made public a work "On Thoroughly Applying the Principles of Socialist Pedagogy in Education in the Cinema", indicating the path to be followed by the Juche art education.

He also took a measure to set up at the university a youth film production group whose mission is to ensure on-site education for students and produce films conducive to educating the young people.

As intended by him, the university properly combined theoretical education and creative activities, thus producing such films of high ideological and artistic value as feature film "The Bride from the City".

It turned out famous film actors and actresses who played leading parts in "A Schoolgirl's Diary", "Pyongyang Nalpharam", "Lovely Sunshine" and many other feature films.

It also produced noted film directors, photographers and drama stars who greatly contributed to the production of many masterpieces, including revolutionary drama "Following the Banner of Victory", revolutionary film "The Land in Flames", multi-part feature film "The Nation and Destiny", light comedy "An Echo among the Hills" and drama "We Will Recollect Today", winners of Kim Il Sung Prize.

The university made public books, textbooks and reference books of 350-odd kinds, including "Library of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Juche-based Idea of the Arts and Literature ", "Library of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il's Juche-oriented Theory of Literature and Art", "Theory on Drama Creation" and "Composition of Film Play".

The university has produced hundreds of holders of state honorary titles and academic degrees.
